NURHI Phase 1 (2009 – 2015)
Phase 1 of NURHI was implemented in six cities (Federal Capital Territory, Ibadan, Ilorin, Kaduna, Benin and Zaria). According to the 2013 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey, it contributed to significant increases in contraceptive prevalence in these cities.

Community Health Extension Workers Booklet
The Community Health Extension Workers booklet is a logbook that states the essential skills to be learned by these providers, including the required number of simulation and real-life experiences. It also provides space for the instructor to add a performance score and sign off when the learning exercise has been completed.
Combined Oral Contraceptive Leaflet
This leaflet provides clear information to clients on combined oral contraceptive pills and the follow-up required. This information promotes client–provider interaction and helps the client to make an informed choice. The leaflet contains information on how combined oral contraceptive pills work, possible contra-indications, how to use the pills, guidelines to follow when one or more pills are missed and when to visit the provider. On selection of this method post-counselling, a leaflet is handed to the client for information and guidance.
Depo-Provera Leaflet
This leaflet provides clear information to clients on the injectable contraceptive Depo-Provera and the follow-up required. This information promotes client–provider interaction and helps the client to make an informed choice. This leaflet contains information on how Depo-Provera works, how to use it, contra-indications, when to visit the provider and possible side effects. On selection of this method post-counselling, a leaflet is handed to the client for information and guidance.
Emergency Contraceptive Pills Leaflet
This leaflet provides clear information to clients on emergency contraceptive pills and the follow-up required. This information promotes client–provider interaction and helps the client to make an informed choice. This leaflet contains information on how emergency contraceptive pills work, their advantages and how to use the method. Jadelle Leaflet
This leaflet provides clear information to clients on the contraceptive implant Jadelle and the follow-up required. This information promotes client–provider interaction and helps the client to make an informed choice. This leaflet contains information on how Jadelle works, important facts, what to discuss with the provider, contra-indications and possible side effects. Lactational Amenorrhea Method Leaflet
This leaflet provides clear information to clients on the lactational amenorrhea method of contraception and the follow-up required. This information promotes client–provider interaction and helps the client to make an informed choice. This leaflet provides clear information to clients on the intrauterine copper device (IUD) and the follow-up required. This information promotes client–provider interaction and helps the client to make an informed choice. This leaflet includes information on how an IUD works, how to use it, its advantages, when an IUD can be inserted and possible side effects. Family Planning Methods on Cue Card
This is a tabletop card about family planning methods for use by non-clinical providers, such as community pharmacists and patient medicine vendors. This cue card provides brief information on each family planning method and equips these providers with accurate information to counsel and refer clients who require family planning methods.
Family Planning Pocket Leaflet
This pocket-fold leaflet contains simple information on various contraceptive methods. It also contains a list of NURHI 2 supported facilities in each state. It is designed for use by non-clinical providers, such as community pharmacists and patient medicine vendors, to be distributed to their potential clients.
Family Planning Poster
This poster provides a brief description of the various contraceptive methods. It is usually pasted in the waiting areas of facilities such that clients can have information on family planning at a glance while waiting for other services. It informs clients and generates interest in family planning. It also promotes client–provider interaction.
Infection Prevention Poster: Steps to Disinfect, Decontaminate and Store Sterilised Instruments
This poster provides a step-by-step guide to disinfecting, decontaminating, and storing instruments used for IUD and implant insertion and removal. This process is important to ensure that the instruments are safe for use.

Infection Prevention Poster: How to Disinfect Surfaces
This poster for health service providers, shows the steps required to disinfect surfaces of certain areas in the facility, such as the waiting area, counselling and procedure rooms, operating theatres, laboratories and so on.
Infection Prevention Poster: Segregation of Medical Waste
This poster shows health workers the proper way to segregate and dispose off different categories of waste into colour-coded waste bins. This information helps to prevent infections and other hazardous risks to the public and environment. It is also useful when educating clients on the importance of proper waste segregation and disposal.
Reproductive Health Wheel Poster
The NURHI 2 project partnered with the Federal Ministry of Health to review and reprint the Reproductive Health Wheel poster which lists the components of reproductive health. The poster was printed in two sizes, an A1 size (with bare facts) for display in offices at the federal and state ministries of health and an A2 size for display at service delivery points.
Family Planning Tabletop Flip Chart
The flip chart is an illustrated tool that family planning providers use when counselling clients about the modern family planning methods. It contains pictures and information about each method to help clients make informed choices.
